The River Calls

August 14th, 2008

Well, upon awaking Wednesday morning I faced a tough decision.  A fifteen mile run in growing heat, or a some cold drinks and the Clackamas River.  I walked a mile to Stumptown and back in contemplation, and then went digging through my closet to find my swim trunks.

I chose the river.

The Final Tally

37 Miles / 37 Hrs = 1 Mile/Hr For 37 Hours

Mt. Tabor Evening Run

August 12th, 2008

Put in 7 miles looping all around Mt. Tabor this evening. Legs felt pretty tired to start, but I was able to get into a groove for the last few miles. This brings me up to 36 miles total, leaving me in the clear until only 7am tomorrow morning. I think I can make it…. On tonights agenda: grilling kebabs, watching the Olympics, and icing the knees.

The Current Tally

36 Miles / 27 Hrs = 1.33 Miles/Hr

An Afternoon Walk

August 12th, 2008

Strolled the neighborhood this afternoon to tack on a few extra miles. Managed to swing by the bank, Powells, Bridgeport, Movie Madness, and 7-11 for a grand total of 2.5 miles. Legs are not feeling their best, and this evenings 7-8 miler sounds less than tempting.

The Current Tally

29 Miles / 23 Hrs = 1.26 Miles/Hr

Early Morning Springwater Loop

August 12th, 2008

This morning I ran a big loop from my home in SE down to the East Waterfront, and then along the Springwater Corridor Trail, eventually cutting north up SE 45th back home. Totaled about 13 miles, the first 11 of which I ran and a final 2 that I walked as a cool down (it was hot out there on Springwater). My body is definitely feeling the fact that I have run 26 miles in just over half a day.

I am now “covered” until 9pm tonight, but I plan on getting ahead with a nice walk this afternoon and an easy run this evening.

The Current Tally

26.5 Miles / 16 Hrs = 1.66 Miles/Hr

A Solid Start

August 11th, 2008

Immediately after work I ran a 13.5 mile out-and-back route, mostly on Leif Erikson Drive in Forest Park. A good 90 minutes run and a splendid evening. The mileage “covers me” until 8am tomorrow morning, but I may get in an evening jog around the neighborhood to loosen up. Time to grill up some steaks for my protein fix!

The Current Tally

13.5 Miles / 3 Hrs = 4.5 Miles/Hr

The 1 M.P.H. Challenge

August 11th, 2008

For how long can one sustain an average foot speed of 1 Mile Per Hour? A 5k is worth 3 hours, and running a marathon nets you over a day. But then you inevitably have to “waste” 8 hours asleep, or worse yet, at work.

Starting at 7pm today (store closing), until 10am Thursday morning (store opening), a span of 63 hours, I will attempt to run 63 miles to average exactly 1 Mile Per Hour.

One hour until the opening run! I will try to keep this blog up to date with a literal running tally of my miles.

Miles of Trials

July 3rd, 2008

I have arrived in Eugene!  It was lovely little trip down via Amtrak train from Portland.

Today (July 3rd) marks the start of the weekend of the 2008 Olympic Trials.  Events begin this evening at 7pm and include final for the Men’s and Women’s 400m and the Men’s 3000m Steeplechase.

I also plan on attending the the Running Film Festival this afternoon to see screenings of Once a Runner (the trailer), Showdown, The Olympic Militia, and Big Heart Little Lion.

Tomorrow morning I will be running in the the Butte-To-Butte 10k, billed as America’s biggest 4th of July road race.

Should be a great weekend, with lovely, sunny weather down here in Eugene.
